When scheduling routine heating maintenance each year, most homeowners don’t anticipate the technician finding a serious problem that needs to be addressed. The technician had noticed that the secondary heat exchanger inside the furnace had failed, causing a combustion “back-up.” The back-up resulted in scorch marks on one of the furnace’s burners.
