However, before you turn the AC on for the first time this season, it is recommended that you get the unit tuned up. Many common problems are caught during maintenance appointments before they turn into bigger problems.
Some common problems include:
- The unit has low refrigerant levels. If the refrigerant levels inside of the air conditioner are low, it may cause the unit to blow out warm air. This could cause your home to feel much warmer than it should with the system running. Additional refrigerant could be added.
- Parts on the AC are worn-out. Fans, blower motors, belts, and other common AC components eventually wear out over time and become inefficient. These parts will need to be replaced so that the unit is able to work normally again.
- The thermostat is inaccurate. Sometimes, the thermostat could show a temperature that isn’t accurate to the setting. To fix the problem, all that may be needed is to swap out the batteries with fresh ones.
- The unit is dirty and dusty. If the air conditioner is full of dust and dirt, it will not be able to adequately push out cool air through your ducts. The professional who inspects your system will need to clean out this debris.
