Fun Uses for Common Household Appliances

Check out these fun and unique uses for some of the most commonly used appliances and gadgets in your home:

Microwaves

Dirty bathroom or kitchen sponges can easily be disinfected with your microwave. Make sure the sponge is slightly damp, place it inside the microwave on the glass tray, and let it run for a couple minutes. This will kill off the bacteria that may be on or inside of the sponge. You should still use your best judgment with these sponges, however. If it’s time for a new one, then toss the old one out.

Hair Dryers

A hair dryer can be used to clean crayon markings off walls and countertops. If your kids have created masterpieces on these surfaces rather than on paper, turn your hair dryer on and blow it directly onto the crayon markings. Eventually, the wax from the crayon marking will start to melt, and you can easily wipe it away with a paper towel. If you still notice crayon residue, soap and water will help take care of the rest.

Waffle Irons

This appliance cooks more than just waffles for breakfast. Try using it for cooking cheeseburgers, brownie desserts, grilled cheese, paninis and other tasty sandwich-like treats.

Stand Mixers

Stand mixers are great for mixing ingredients for cakes, cookies and breads. But you can also use them to shred meat for tacos or sandwiches. Shredding chicken or beef with a fork takes a long time and can be strenuous. Simply cut the cooked meat into cubes and toss it into the mixer on medium speed for a few minutes until it is shredded.

Food Processors

If you are craving ice cream, make the base recipe and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Once frozen, throw the pieces into a food processor and it will mix them together into an ice creamy mixture.

Popcorn Makers

Not only do these appliances help to heat up tasty popcorn, but you can also use them to toast nuts.

Pizza Cutters

In addition to cutting tasty pieces of pizza, this cutter can be used when slicing chives, green onions, herbs, vegetables, pie crusts for lattice shapes, and other foods for whatever meal or dessert you may be preparing.
