Q: What should I do if I smell natural gas?
A: Leave immediately if you smell gas in your home. Do not operate anything that could cause a spark — including lights, cell phones, flashlights and appliances. Get to a safe location outside your home and then call 911 and your local gas utility. Wait for a crew to check on the source of the odor and make the area safe before returning.
Q: What does this bundle package cover?
A: With this package, you’ll have repair coverage for the natural gas lines that you own, both inside and outside your home, and for the water service line that brings water from the utility main to your home. (Lines that are in or under a home’s foundation or slab are not included.) The coverage includes general wiring, standard wall outlets (including GFCI), standard wall switches, standard dimmers, circuit breakers, breaker panels, doorbells, and even thermostat wiring and intercom wiring. For more details, please see the Customer Agreement.
Q: How does the gas line inspection work?
A: The Complete Gas Line Protection portion of this bundle includes an annual in-home safety inspection of exposed interior gas lines, shutoff valves and connectors. If leaking components are found, they will be replaced. When you are ready for your inspection, simply call the Customer Care number and request an appointment. A professional will come to your home to perform the inspection.
Q: Will electric line problems in my garage be covered?
A: Yes, if you have an attached garage the electric lines are covered. Electric lines in detached garages are not covered.
Q: Does my homeowners' insurance cover these problems?
A: Individual insurance policies can vary, but standard homeowners’ insurance policies typically do not cover repair or replacement of natural gas lines and water service lines for wear-and-tear issues.
Q: Will my fuse box be covered in case there's a problem?
A: Yes. Whether you have a fuse box or a circuit breaker, it’s covered up to $5,000 annually.
Q: Will my light fixtures be covered?
A: No, lighting fixtures themselves are not covered with this interior electric protection plan. However, the wiring leading to them and standard switches or dimmers that control them are covered.
Q: Is there a waiting period to file a claim?
A: There is no waiting period for Complete Gas Line Protection. You can make a claim and request your annual gas line inspection at any time once your enrollment has been accepted. For Preferred Interior Electric Line Protection claims, there is a 30-day wait after your enrollment has been accepted before you can make a claim on the coverage (and pre-existing conditions are not covered).
Q: Does this plan cover connectors to my outdoor grill or outdoor kitchen accessories?
A: Yes, it does! The plan will cover outdoor natural gas piping and the connectors to your outdoor grill, outdoor kitchen accessories and more if those lines are your responsibility.
